Petrol!

Today Shimelle suggests discussing something mundane so I have picked her idea of petrol. For most of us, petrol is a boring subject but for me it is an important part of my financial processes each month. Since the rises in petrol prices, I have found that for me a tank of petrol in my little Seat Ibiza has risen from £30.00 in total to over £50.00 a week. This is because I make a daily round trip of over 40 miles to and from my workplace, and use petrol for my job as I have to go to client's homes and travel up and down for training and meetings. We do get paid mileage but the NHS being what it is, cash strapped it is never really inline with inflation so you never quite break even.

There was a discussion in our office the other day about where was the cheapest to get our petrol, the choices were Morrisons, Tesco, Sainsburys and Asda, and Morrisons came top. I use my Morrisons card to collect points to take off shopping. My dad always swears by them too for his petrol. The other main shops are generally much of a muchness and if you have a loyalty card at least you get money off food. I was lucky enough to get 5p off per litre in Tescos the other week as I had spent enough on shopping.

Another brilliant find has been Martin Lewis's money tips website. He has links to brilliant places to help you reduce the cost of living and there is a great site purely dedicated to finding the best price for petrol in your area. There are also simple tips for improving fuel efficiency. It's a site packed with loads of well researched information.

So today, I think I will share some more fab music, remember important moments in your life, and I remember specific music. This track was playing when I had my first kiss from a very gorgeous lad called Simon at an aftershow party in school. He was lovely.

  1. I love the Martin Lewis site...and use it all the time....I can't believe how petrol is soaring in price almost daily.

  2. Petrol prices make me sad! My poor little car feels starved for affection. Not affection. FUEL!

  3. We have gone down to one car after some serious thought - one car sat on the drive for a majority of the weeks as my husband car shares to make the 120 mile round trip to work everyday (I shudder to think how much money we would spend on diesel each week if he drove there and back everyday. Not having my little car took some getting used to - but I am walking far more which is a good thing and my grocery bill has struck as I can no longer just pop into Tesco or Asda on the way home from work.

  4. The other day I heard someone say that the only thing more expensive than petrol was printer ink. Too true, I thought. Too true.

  5. I get the petrol price e-mail as well and it is scary how much it is going up by each week. It costs more than £5.00 per gallon now! We have to run 3 cars in our house to get us all to work... utter madness. Great post though Jo x

  6. So, so true. We're lucky that The Doctor can get the train to work and I only need to make short journeys, but we've noticed the difference even so. Poor you, needing to rely on your car for your job xx

  7. I know we pay a lot less for gas here in the United States, but I feel your pain. The prices keep rising here on a whim. It's going to put a real financial dent in my wallet when we take our long-planned summer road trip.
I really feel for those of you who have to drive for their work. It must feel like a never-ending, rapidly expanding river of money coming out of your wallets.
I'm still hoping for a good family-sized electric car, worthy of lots of highway miles.

  8. It is very sad that it has risen so much as a lot of people cannot afford to drive now. I am lucky that I only HAVE to drive to and from work twice a week :)
