Mental Health Awareness week x

Hello and welcome to another week of blogging. For me, this week is centred around Mental Health Awareness week. As many of you know, I have a condition called Bipolar Affective disorder which I was diagnosed with officially about 10 years ago, but which has been insidiously affecting my life since I was 18 years old. If you want to know more then do please read the page dedicated to my story, or some or my story at least.

So this week marks a week of raising awareness of all mental health conditions and I wanted to share a little of what will be happening nationally and perhaps in your local area, to do my part to raise awareness.

  1. This is such a good plan Jo. I know people with bipolar disorder or other mental health issues - and I think many people suffer with some sort of mental health problem at some point in their lives, even if it is not a permanent condition.
People need to gain a better understanding of this - so many folks have a very skewed and unbalanced view of mental health problems; it must surely make someone's life much less easy, if those around them do not understand their illness or problems.
It's easy to understand enough about a broken leg, that you can give that person support and encouragement. A mental illness or condition is hard to understand; it is not visible in the same way and its effects are more subtle and less easy to discern. I suppose it's also a bit scary for most people...

I will read your posts with interest. Thank you for taking the trouble to inform and explain. It's a very valuable thing to be doing. X

  3. With more people coming forward to share their stories, more will understand how it effects so many. You're also helping others to understand their not alone in what they're feeling xxx
