The London Marathon and 2 scrapbooking things x

Happy Monday everybody and were you glued to The London Marathon yesterday? Well I was. I was at my parents for lunch and secretarial duties and my mum and I were watching in the kitchen. Specifically we were looking for 2 people amongst the thousands.

One was this young lady, her name is Chelsea, she's in her 20s and when she was a week old I looked after her. She did herself proud by just completing the 26.2 mile run and I am so proud to know her. Here she is in her finish photo. Go girl you rock.

The second person is someone I've never met but sponsored, he's an actor and I should be seeing him a play next weekend if my Bipolar behaves itself long enough. His name is Chris and he is also amazing for finishing.

And now onto the scrapbooking bits. Firstly did anyone do Shimelle's newest class last autumn called Scrapbook Remix? Well I did and Shimelle is doing a re-run starting today for new purchasers and also the class alumni. If you haven't sent her an email yet then hop over here for the details. Scrapbook Remix is an online scrapbooking class that shares the secrets to mixing patterned papers of all kinds and then creating a range of pages with this combinations. We’ll talk colour, pattern, scale, size, technique and more. The class includes both PDF and video prompts: a total of twenty full-colour PDFs and eight videos over four weeks. In each PDF prompt, we start with a different paper collection, then analyse it and remix it with other papers and embellishments to create four or more different looks. The video prompts include a mix theory discussion (showing exactly why some patterns do and do not work well together) and the step-by-step process for creating specific scrapbook pages.

Secondly on the scrapbooking front, this Sunday a group of bloggers and scrapbookers are having a bloghop called ''Pass the Page''. This was the brainchild of Julie and the premise was that she would design a layout and send it to the next person on the participants list, they would scraplift that page and pass it on the next person and so on. The trick is you only get to see the page you are passed and your page until this Sunday when all the pages are revealed. Interested? Then come here Sunday 28th April and see what we all made. 

So lots of fun things to look forward to this week and a secret event I'm attending, again if the Bipolar behaves, which I am so excited for you would not believe.

10 on the tenth - products for 2013.

Hello and welcome to the first 10 on the tenth for 2013. I thought I would share some of the lovely new products that some of my favourite companies have been sharing from CHA 2013.

From American Crafts and Amy Tan comes this new collection Yes, Please of beautiful elements, minibooks, stamps, stickers and clips..........................

From Crate Paper and Maggie Holmes comes another springtime themed set..........................

 And yes those thickers do have oodles of gold glitter on them...................JYC 2013 anyone?

I have always really loved My Mind's Eye and this season they have excelled themselves by including my fave motif, the butterfly........................

 I love the colour shading in this set and all the elements are just me.

From Studio Calico comes a range of 12 x 12 Placemats, which if I read the info correctly can be used as part of a LO or as a mask for your pages. I wonder if you could cut some of the pieces apart to make frames?

From Jillybean soup comes this lovely range of stamps, my faves are actually the ones with the butterflies and the word banners at the bottom but the picture on their site included them all so you can have a look see. I do love the papers in this collection called Cucumber Soup as they are perfect shades for spring and early summer...................

 

From Jenni Bowlin come these lovely new chipboard pieces with clocks on them and below them are bingo numbers....................

If you .love Tim Holtz and Ranger then you will adore the new Distress paints which come in a wide variety of shades to match with the distress inks, pens and crackle glazes.................

 Tim has also developed a dry glitter here in rock candy which one of my favourites in the Stickles range of glitter glues.............

From Basic Grey comes the new Hipster range which feels pretty retro................

New purchases.

So today has been bright and sunny. So warm in fact I was able to walk around Wells without a coat on. The market was full and there was loads of interesting stuff to see. I received some more happy post today but I had paid for that.
I usually purchase my scrapbooking supplies from my local crop or else Sarah's Cards or Merly Impressions. Primarily because their service is always exceptional and value for money, and also they seem to have alot of the new CHA products to try. So here is what I ordered..................

From Sarah's Cards I bought some music patterned paper and this camera paper which I thought I could cut into camera pieces to make it go further.

 

 ...............the music paper is My Mind's Eye ''Follow your heart'' and the cameras is called This and that Instamatic by Echo Park Paper.

I also got these tags to try by Pebbles

 

 and this fab Amy Tangerine day book which has pages like this...............

plus this cute stamp set also by Amy Tangerine which I have been after for a while............

I also bought a new Herma applicator as this is my fave adhesive and I can buy the refills at crop.

From Merly Impressions I bought this flatpacked wall unit which I will decorate and show at a later date. I also bought some Alpha stickers which are so minute u need a spy glass to see them.

 

Finally I managed to get myself this month's copy of Making which I love and also got this mini alphabet stamp set from my local charity shop for £2.25................bargain.

Glimmer misting fun...................

If, like me, you love using glimmer mists on your projects, or even if you are a novice Shimelle Laine's new project as Glitter Girl solver of all problems scrapbooking has a new video and tutorial this week over at Two Peas in a bucket. There is an excellent description and demonstration of the different mists available and how you can use them, and also a bonus video of other techniques from other Two Peas tutors. Not bad for a free class.


Last weeks challenge was using memorabilia on a layout so go check that one out too. Personally I tend to use Tattered Angel's glimmer mists primarily because I started off buying those at my local crop and have a few now which I use regularly. This is one of my favourite colours       I also love Glimmer Glam by tattered angels which is highly glittered type of paint on glue/varnish. It makes bows and paper ruffles firm and protected with that all important shine. I use chandelier as it goes with everything due to it being clear. The glitteriness is brilliant if, like me, you adore that glittery bling. They also have a great list of video tutorials on how to best use the products.

So go forth and experiment xxxx

Not quite sure what's been happening, maybe I'm making up for lost mojo, but the scrapbooking has been going exceedingly well thank you Mr Kipling!

This weekend I have made 1 double page LO and a single page LO based around Shimelle's 4x6 photolove pages, and 2 class LOs.

If you havent heard of Shimelle's 4x6 photo love then you can find more about it on Shimelle's site or here at Two Peas in a Bucket. The basic idea is that each month Shimelle scrapbooks 4x6 photos and the number of the month denotes the number of photographs used. So in January you use 1 and by December there will be 12. Now when you see my LOs based on her pages you will spot 2 mistakes. The first came about when I realsied that the photos I had ordered only came in at 4x51/4 so there is a gap down each side of the page. The second is in the double page spread there were meant to be 5 photos however, silly me forgot that and already out in her embellies and realised her photo didnt fit the LO anyway. So the moral is...................either get the right photos, remember the number ur working with or else just go for your own design!
Anyway here is the double page LO and Shimelle's original design.................

I have been trying to use up the millions of photos I took for Luke's birthday weekend and am getting there thankfully. The double page LO is all about the fountains behind Sheffield City Hall. I used one pre-made embelly for the labels and then 2 handmade ones. I only used 3 papers here and used each side to mix and match,

This next single page LO is another 4x6 photolove scraplift using 4 photos, one hidden under a decorated piece of cardstock and shows the Sheffield Eye...............

....................and he are the birthday boy and myself hidden under the flap.

The last 2 LOs are from classes. The first is from crop and is a LO using a mitred frame in 3D relief and loads of handcut embellishments. Not my cup of tea cos I find it so fiddly and time consuming. Anyway it turned out well, with some added bling in the form of stickles and butterflies.

We made fabric flowers as well which I embellieshed later with some blinged pins and cute buttons.

This final LO is a class taught from an online website I subscribe to called Miss Arts Papercrafting School. It starts at a $5 subscription up to $15.00 and there are several classes a month which have video guidance and some pdf files too. The $15.00 subscription also allows access to all levels of classes and 90 days of library class access.

 The lady who taught this class was really inspiring and the above LO is made using Prima papers, vintage music sheets and cardstock along with some Prima stickers. So I will try and descrinbe the process you go through. First you have to cut out the centre of the patterned paper around the design, next you cut out the cardstock slightly reduced in size. These 2 pieces are then stuck together with 3D foam. The vintage sheet music is then cut into strips and smooshed and crumples, inked and then pleated all the way around the inside of the cardstock to form another layer and frame. Finally a third layer of cardstock is attached to the back of the 3D frames. The photo slides in behind the musci and the butterflies, bling and title were added. I really enjoyed this LO as it romantic and used alot of bits I already had in my stash.

So tonight, Shimelle is sending something for us Beyond Blogging for scrapbookers and I am finishing my summer minibook using a kit from Elle's Studios. More on that another time.
